Style Icon- Lily Collins
We all know Hollywood starlets, or the next big thing, come and go as quickly as I choose a new favourite nail polish. But this particular one to watch has been edging her way on to my radar for some time now- albeit I've never seen this actress in a film I liked, but hey, here, that doesn't matter. She's been impossible to miss, and I've been loving her style recently- it's Lily Collins.
Lily was born in Guildford, Surrey (British- represent) 24 years ago, the daughter of Phil Collins and his second wife Jill Tavelman. She moved to California at the age of 5 when her parents divorced, so she has a great mix of English class and Cali cool. She even attended college for longer than most starlets do, majoring in Broadcast Journalism; I remember seeing her writing somewhere (I think it was her NY Confidential column in ELLE Girl) and being intrigued, and she only goes up in my eyes through the knowledge that she's also written for Seventeen, Teen Vogue and the Los Angeles Times magazine.
However much I esteem her professionally, style wise, until recently, she was a bit blah. Cute and princess-y and slightly all-American. But woah, what a turn around. She's been on a mega promotional tour for the new Mortal Instruments film, and her mainly black and white colour palette is striking, her shapes interesting, tailoring spot on. She manages rock classy and edgy at the same time. She stands out now, which I think is important in terms of style; I want to listen to what she has to say, watch what she's in. What should bother me, as it often does, is that she's quite obviously styled. But you know, I had a slight love for her anyway, so I'm willing to push it aside. However she got there, she's my new style icon, and I'm crushing hard. All hail Phil Collins for creating such a cool daughter.
